Fire guts female hostel in University of Uyo

The incident was caused by an electrical fault when one of the female students was cooking.

There was a minor fire incident at a female hostel of the University of Uyo on Saturday, June 13, in which the property of 20 students were destroyed.

The university’s Public Relations Officer, Godfrey Essien, confirmed the incident, but said that the inferno was put off by men of the State Fire Service.

“Yes there was a minor fire outbreak in one of the female hostels in the town campus of the university, but it was brought under control by men of the State Fire Service.

“The fire affected just two of the rooms in the hostel while no life was lost.
