Prisons boss in trouble for allowing aides slap female lawmaker

A person could be jailed for six months or fined the sum of N400,000 for assaulting a lawmaker in the premises of the National Assembly.

House of Representatives member-Mrs. Onyemachi Mrukpor. 

Punch reports that men of the Prisons Service who were in the convoy of Ekpendu, on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, allegedly slapped Mrukpor.

Reports say the Prisons boss, sat in his car and watched as the female lawmaker was assaulted by his men.

According to Punch, a person could be jailed for six months or fined the sum of N400,000 for assaulting a lawmaker in the premises of the National Assembly.

The Minority Leader of the House, Mr. Leo Ogor while moving a motion to summon Ekpendu said “The member was battered under the watch of the CG of Prisons. Her offence was that she overtook the convoy of the CG within the premises of the National Assembly.

“The CG of Prisons is invited to explain why he should not be committed to prison in violation of Section 16 of the Legislative Houses, Powers and Privileges Act.”

The Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Danbazzau was also summoned in relation to this incident.
