Female corper constructs maternity hospital for community

She said she raised the fund to build the hospital from Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOS) and other good spirited personalities in the society.

A female corps member has completed a three million naira maternity hospital at the Primary Health Care Centre, Jikwoyi, Abuja.

The corper, Jalila Ahmad, who is serving with the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), constructed a labour room, two office blocks for family planning and antenatal at the centre.

Speaking at the inauguration of the project, Ahmad said, "no cause is closer to my heart than helping the underprivileged especially mothers and babies.’’

The corps member said she was motivated to embark of the projects due to the poor sanitation of the environment and the need to give the centre facelift.

She called on well-meaning Nigerians to assist the government in providing basic amenities for the less-privileged to ensure a healthy living.

Ahmad who has also constructed modern toilet, repaired borehole, erected signposts and also provided refuse bins, among others, said the maternity hospital form part of her Community Development Projects.

The project was received by the Supervisory Councilor for Health in the area, Josephine Nnodim, the Supervisory Councilor for Health in the area.

Ahmad graduated from University Houston in the United States with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Biology.
