The National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Micah Jiba has resigned in Abuja.
Ibrahim Ahmed Karaye has emerged the acting ALGON National President.
Jiba in a massage, advised the newly acting ALGON president to continue with the struggle of pursuit of the actualisation of autonomy of the local government.
"After due consultation with my family members and other higher authorities, I deemed it fit to voluntarily resign in the spirit of democracy" Jiba said.
But Jereya, who is the chairman of Kereya Local Government Area of Kano State, was unanimously nominated and declared winner after the outgoing president, resigned.
He is expected to act as president of the union until the tenure of Micah Jiba ends next year.
Kereya in his acceptance speech commended the outgoing president for voluntarily stepping down without coercion.
He called for the support of all the local government chairmen in his bid to reposition the association and champion their course.
ALGON comprises all local government chairmen in the 774 local governments in Nigeria.
