The former governor will expectedly be transferred to Nigeria following the signing of an agreement between the Federal Government and the UK government, The Nation reports.
The UK has also reportedly promised to give Nigeria N280 million to assist in the comprehensive reformation of the country’s prisons.
This was revealed by the UK Minister of Justice, Jeremy Wright during a recent meeting with the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau.
The former governor was recently reported to have been released then re-arrested but the reports were denied by his kinsman and Secretary-General of the Oghara Clan Union in the UK, Charles Abutoh.
“If you imprison someone for stealing, you can’t let them go without telling you what you say they stole. That is the essence of the confiscation trial. Once the trial is concluded and he is able to settle it, he will be released,” Abutoh said.
“They know Ibori sells papers, so some people just sit down and write whatever they like. I visited him in prison about three weeks ago and speak with him every other day,” he added
Ibori is expected to complete his prison term in six months.
