Pastor Paul Adefarasin's House on the Rock church in Abuja was on Sunday, June 25, gutted by fire.

The inferno, which consumed a section of the church building, was said to have lasted for about five hours.

It took a combined effort of the Federal Fire Service and other private fire outfits in the Federal Capital Territory to put out the fire, Channels TV reports.

The cause of the fire was not ascertained as at the time of filing this report.

Confirming the incident, the pastor in charge of the church branch, Edbert Abebe, said there was nobody in the building when the fire broke out.

"There was nobody in the building, we are not actually meeting in this section of the building; we are meeting in some other section. We will have to carry out investigations to find out what exactly caused the fire but we can’t speculate," Pastor Abebe said.
