SOKAPU urges communities to protect themselves

The Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) has called on all its communities in Kaduna State to protect themselves from the unprovoked attack allegedly carried out by some Fulani Herdsmen.

SOKAPU, an umbrella body of all communities in Southern Kaduna, said on Thursday, May 5, 2016 that the killing of the district head of Karshi, Mr. Bala Madaki, 66, and his nephew, Emmanuel Tanko, who was writing the 2016 West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination called for all communities to help themselves.

National President of SOKAPU, Barr Solomon Musa said in a statement that the violence killings are no stranger to Sanga Local Government.

“Natives of the Council have been massacred in indescribable manners for years. In the past two years, more than 200 people have been killed so far in Sanga Local Government alone. Other LGAs in Southern Kaduna have also witnessed the barbaric cruelty of these marauding herdsmen which has killed thousands of people and left entire communities razed to the ground,” SOKAPU said.

“We firstly, commiserate with the people of Sanga Local Government over the new attack, even as they prepare for the burial this Saturday, and pray that the Good Lord bring healing and peace to their communities. We also appeal to the state government to, as a matter of urgency, influence the permanent deployment of security personnel to that area, especially the forest serving as boundaries with Plateau and Nasarawa states.”

“We are also calling on the people of Sanga, and all other communities in Southern Kaduna that have borne the brunt of countless attacks from suspected herdsmen, to begin to explore other self-help means of thwarting these persistent attacks that have left some of the Southern Kaduna people in ruins.”

“This self-help is to complement whatever measures the state government has/is taking to curtail these killings. We owe it to ourselves to reduce the numbers of mass graves used in burying our people; from becoming increased features of our communities,” SOKAPU added
