Buhari has already rescued Nigeria

According to former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, he and a few other eminent Nigerians gathered and decided to choose Buhari to rescue Nigeria.

President Muhammadu Buhari

Buhari’s victory in the 2015 general elections was nothing short of a miracle, because the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had the money and the power necessary to win the polls.

Contrary to popular belief however, the All Progressives Congress (APC) did not win because of its promise to change the country. Rather it won because Nigerians came together and decided that they would take no more of the PDP’s nonsense.

Buhari’s victory in the 2015 elections was a victory claimed by many Nigerians nationwide because it was a victory for our democracy.

However, Buhari is now one of Nigeria’s most criticized citizens and many people who voted for him have concluded that they made the wrong choice.

This is why a recent statement made by former president, Olusegun Obasanjo has caused waves of controversy around the country.

According to Obasanjo, he and a few other eminent Nigerians gathered and decided to choose Buhari to rescue Nigeria.

“Three or four other of us from different part of the country got together and said to ourselves what do we do? We said what is the problem with us and why are we still not growing. We got talking and knew we needed to do something,” Obasanjo said at a reception held in his honour at the Government House in Taraba state on Friday, August 19, 2016.

“What do we need to deal with for this Nigeria of ours to become what God has created it to be? A land flowing with milk and honey, that is the intention of God for creating Nigeria.

“So far, Buhari has not disappointed us. I trust him, he will not fail Nigerians. I know he will overcome the challenges the country is currently facing,” he added.

Many Nigerians believe that things have gotten worse under Buhari’s administration, and they are right, but the truth is that the president has already rescued Nigeria from a lot of danger.

If not for Buhari, citizens would still be ignorant of the extent of corruption that has been going on in the country. If not for Buhari, corruption would still be the order of the day.

If not for the fall of global oil prices during Buhari’s regime, Nigerians would not realize just how precarious a position the country was in when it was solely dependent on oil.

If not for the increase in the rate of the dollar to the Naira, Nigerians would not realize how unfortunate it is that we import practically everything we use.

President Buhari is not without his flaws, in fact his silence during national tragedies is unsettling to say the least, but Nigerians should be grateful for this administration because, if nothing else, it is an eye-opener.

The Buhari administration has rescued Nigerians from ignorance and self-deceit, now more than ever, we realize that we must wake up if we hope to save our country from imminent financial ruin.

Granted, this might not have been the kind of change that Nigerians were expecting, but a deliverance from ignorance, is a great deliverance indeed.
