Government approves implementation of Confab report

The Federal Executive Council (NEC) has approved the full implementation of the National Conference final report.

The Federal Executive Council (NEC) on Wednesday, March 18, approved the National Conference final report as a step towards implementing the recommendations contained in the report.

The outgoing supervising Minister of Information, Edem Duke in company of the Secretary of the Federation, Pius Anyim Pius made this known to journalists in Abuja.

Speaking after the council meeting, Anyim said that council’s decision follows the recommendation by a committee President Goodluck Jonathan set up, which concluded that the report is implementable.

President Goodluck Jonathan had in September 2014 approved the composition of a Presidential Committee to study and draw up the implementation strategy, shortly after the end of the National Conference.

The committee’s terms of reference included studying the Report of the 2014 National Conference, articulating the recommendations therein and developing appropriate strategies for its implementation, and advising the Federal Government on all matters necessary for the effective implementation of the Report.

According to Anyim, the recommendations and resolutions that have implications for constitutional amendment should be transmitted to the National Assembly for enactment into law, while resolutions on policy matters by federal and state agencies or local governments which require action should be transmitted to the appropriate quarters for immediate implementation and all that requires action by state governments should be referred to the states for immediate implementation.
