Kaduna to unveil State SDGs 2017 Report at UN in September

El-Rufai said the report is the first of its kind in Nigeria and one of the very few across the world since the launch of SDGs in 2015.

Gov. Nasiru El-Rufai who disclosed this  while presenting the report in Kaduna, said a team led by his Deputy, Mr Barnabas Bantex were in New York for the 72nd UN General Assembly, where the report would be launched.

According to him, the report is the first of its kind in Nigeria and one of the very few across the world since the launch of SDGs in 2015.

The governor explained that the report identified the base line status of the SDGs in the state, highlighted key policy actions and progress made so far in achieving set targets.

“For us in Kaduna State, the goals and targets have been fully integrated into our state development plan 2016-2020, which is piloting our development and making our campaign promises a reality.

“In 2015 when we came into office, we made bold to say that we will incorporate the SDGs into our development strategies using an estimated population of 1.8 million then.”

He also said: “‘The progress we are making is also making a substantial impact towards achieving the SDGs in Nigeria and globally.

“Our first step in the journey to achieve sustainable development has been that of generating sufficient data, a base line to understanding where Kaduna stands in relations to the goals and help guide policy intervention to target the deepest and most persistent pocket of poverty.”

He said that this was done through the heavy investment made in the establishment of the State Bureau of Statistics.
