‘No more free food during Ramadan,’ Governor says

El-Rufai stated further that if his government continued the trend, it would not be able to bring much needed development to the state.

Kaduna state governor, Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has said that his government will not continue the tradition of sharing free foodstuff during the month of Ramadan.

The governor made the declaration on Friday, June 19, 2015, while speaking at the Government House during a visit with members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI).

“I have been made to understand that this Ramadan period, we are supposed to have started sharing rice, milk and sugar, but we will not do that,” El-Rufai said.

“If his government continues in such direction, the administration will only exist to pay salaries and allowances. So, we solicit your prayers to be able to stabilise the situation and we hope that things will improve,” he added.

El-Rufai also lamented the high cost of building the Government House saying that the money should have been spent on useful projects.
