Governor vows to complete overdue Zaria-water project

It said that the governor made the promise when he paid an unscheduled visit to the project site in Zaria.

Nasir El-rufai

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai on Sunday, June 14, said that his administration will break the jinx stalling the Zaria-water project that is yet to be completed, several years after its contract was awarded, but had gulped billions of naira.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to the governor, Samuel Aruwan, in Kaduna.

It said that the governor made the promise when he paid an unscheduled visit to the project site in Zaria, where he directed the contractors handling the project to give him the details about the project.

The statement quoted the governor as saying that the perennial water scarcity in Zaria town and the neighboring communities is because of the non-completion of the project.

"We are here to see things for ourselves.

"The Zaria-water project has been on for years without producing a single drop of a water.

"We must work hard to see to its successful conclusion.

"We are deeply committed to ensuring efficient and quality service delivery to the eight million people in Kaduna state."

It said that El-Rufai said, "By the power of Almighty God and the support of the people of Kaduna state.

"We will break the Zaria-water project jinx and bring potable water to Zaria town and the surrounding local government areas captured in the project design.

"We have directed those handling the project to come forward and give us comprehensive details and the progress report on the project.”

The statement said that the governor noted that non-completion of the project is causing hardship to residents of Zaria.

"We need to solve the problem," the statement quoted the governor.
