The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly arrested the immediate past permanent secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, Mrs Nkechi Ejele.

Citing sources at the Commission, Premium Times reports that Ejele, who arrived at the Commission's headquarters  around 10am today, Nov. 19,  is being grilled for her involvement in the alleged misapplication of funds meant for the Subsidy Re-investment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) appropriated to the Ministry in 2013 and 2014.

The ex-scribe was removed by President Muhammadu Buhari on November 10, 2015.

She was deployed from the Head of Civil Service of the Federation Office to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture & National Orientation on March 6, 2013 under the Goodluck Jonathan administration until her removal.

However, according to Christopher Kolade, a former Chairman of SURE-P, he had resigned from his position in 2013 because its operations were shady.

He said some of the officials of the Jonathan government were practising “something that was lower than transparency”.
