Italian doctor cured, released from hospital

An Italian doctor who contracted Ebola in Sierra Leone has been cured of the disease and released from hospital.

50-year-old Fabrizio Pulvirenti arrived in Rome on November 25 and was treated at the Lazzaro Spallanzani Hospital.

Speaking about his experience with the disease, Pulvirenti told journalists:

“For the first few days, partly to keep my mind active, I tried to examine every symptom I was experiencing scientifically.”

“Then there came a moment when I lost consciousness of what was going on around me and I don't remember anything that happened for about two weeks,” he added.

The doctor also stated that he would likely return to Sierra Leone to continue treating Ebola patients after he regains his strength.

The current outbreak, which is the worst ever recorded, has now killed almost 8,000 people according to the World Health Organization.
