An American health worker who was exposed to the Ebola virus in Sierra Leone has been hospitalized for observation and possible treatment.

The unidentified patient has been isolated at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, one of the four US hospitals equipped to handle the disease.

The medical director of the hospital’s Biocontainment Unit, Phil Smith has said that the patient “is not ill and is not contagious.”
“This patient has been exposed to the virus but is not ill and is not contagious. However, we will be taking all appropriate precautions,” Smith said.
The health worker will be monitored at the facility for 21 days to see if Ebola develops.
