According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the current Ebola outbreak has claimed 6915 lives.

The WHO stated on Wednesday, December 17, that the number of confirmed cases of the disease had also risen to 18,603 as of December 14.

327 new Ebola cases were confirmed in Sierra Leone in the past week, 125 of those from the country’s capital, Freetown.

The outbreak has escalated in Sierra Leone in recent times but the UN agency has said that there are signs that the spread of the disease is slowing in the country.

“A major operation has been implemented to curb the spread of disease in the west of the country,” the WHO said.

Sierra Leone has announced a ban on all Christmas celebrations and will now be conducting house to house searches in a bid to combat Ebola.
