House of Reps Speaker condoles with late Tor Tiv's family

The Speaker of House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara, has since condoled with the family of the late traditional ruler, and Tor Tiv, Dr Alfred Akawe Torkula

Dogara said “His reign as Tor Tiv witnessed unprecedented development, peace and tranquillity in Tiv land.

“He helped in uniting the various ethnic groups in northern Nigeria as a strong believer in the unity and indivisibility of Nigeria.’’

According to reports, the 71 year old traditional ruler died in a private hospital where he was receiving treatment from an undisclosed illness.

The late Dr Alfred Akawe Torkula was the pro-chancellor of the Michael Okpara Univesity in Abia State.

Speaking to newsmen, the Governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom, who confirmed the traditional ruler’s death said “As I am talking to you now, the Tiv traditional council members have just left Gboko to formally announce the passing away of the paramount ruler.”

Burial announcements will be made public later by the designated Tiv chief.
