EFCC to arrest INEC officials over N23b bribe from ex minister

There are strong indications that the anti-graft agency might also arrest more Fidelity bank PLC staff.

Former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke

The former minister allegedly offered bribes to INEC officials prior to the 2015 general elections.

According to Punch, the EFCC alleged that the Managing Director (MD) of Fidelity bank PLC, Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo helped convert $115m to N23b for disbursement to the officials.

Okonkwo was arrested by the anti-graft agency for allegedly receiving the sum of $115m from Diezani.

According to an EFCC source who spoke to Punch, “Ugonna prepared a list of beneficiaries that would get the money and it was distributed about a day or two before the elections. We have started tracing those who collected money and our aim is to recover the funds.

“All the electoral officers, who betrayed public trust would be arrested. All EFCC zonal offices have been given the directive to investigate in their respective areas of jurisdictions.”

A senior official also revealed that the EFCC has launched a manhunt for Ugonna Madueke, Diezani’s son who allegedly facilitated the payments.
