Trial of former NSA to begin Tuesday, September 1

The trial of former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki for possession of firearms without a licence will begin on Tuesday, September 1, 2015, reports say.

Dasuki was charged with the offence on August 24, 2015, according to a statement by Department of State Security (DSS) spokesperson , Tony Opuiyo.

The offence is punishable under section 27(I)(a)(I) of the Firearms Act Cap F28 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

Dasuki came under scrutiny after a DSS invasion of his Abuja and Sokoto homes on July 16.

The DSS claimed that they had recovered seven high calibre rifles, including magazines and military gears during the search.

The agency said that it searched Dasuki’s homes “based on credible intelligence linking the immediate past NSA with alleged plans to commit treasonable felony against the Nigerian state.”
