‘We’ll help Nigeria bring missing girls home,’ US says

The US also said that Nigeria requires a comprehensive regional approach to end the Boko Haram insurgency.

Chibok girls

The United States of America has said that it would continue to assist Nigeria in efforts to bring home the abducted Chibok girls.

The US also said that Nigeria requires a comprehensive regional approach to end the Boko Haram insurgency.

The comments were made by US Deputy Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken during a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

“The Chibok girls remain a priority for us. I know there are many more young girls and women who are missing. Our focus is on them as well,” Blinken said.

“We will continue to provide assistance to the government in an attempt to look for them, find them and bring them home,” he added.

“We have been working hard to assist the government of Nigeria. For example, we have been providing training, equipment, advice, information, intelligence sharing and logistic support. We recently established a $40-million fund to global security fund; that is a sign to promote joint effort with the Lake Chad countries to strengthen cross border security, cooperation and capacity to combat Boko Haram,” Blinken said.

The US earlier announced a donation of $5 million to Nigeria to help in the fight against terrorism.

The Chibok girls were abducted on April 14, 2014 and most of them remain in captivity.
