Medical practitioner cautions smokers against lung, liver diseases

He said prolonged smoking could lead to heart and lung cancer, stressing that heavy smokers stood the risk of early death.

Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola

A medical practitioner in Osun, Dr Kayode Oyebode, has warned cigarette smokers against smoking to avoid lung and liver cancer.

Oyebode gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Osogbo.

He advised that "smokers willing to quit should visit hospital for check-up in order to know the level of damage done to their heart and lung.’’

The medical practitioner urged government and other health organisations to sensitise the public on the dangers of smoking.

Oyebode said stakeholders in the health sector should educate, inform and sensitise the public on the dangers of smoking because many people were ignorant of its dangers.
