US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Linda Thomas-Greenfield had said during a live-web chat with journalists on July 13 that the country would compel Nigeria to recognize same sex unions.

Buhari’s media aide, Femi Adesina stated that the president rejected the issue ‘point blank.’
“The issue of gay marriage came up here yesterday. PMB was point blank. Sodomy is against the law in Nigeria, and abhorrent to our culture,” Adesina said via Twitter on Wednesday, July 22, 2015.
