Senate Committee screens 34 ambassadorial nominees from President

The committee, which screened 15 nominees on Tuesday, screened additional 19 on Wednesday.

The nominees, answered questions bothering on their qualification, expertise and what they would do to ensure bilateral relations between Nigeria and other countries if confirmed.

The Chairman of the committee, Sen. Monsurat Sunmonu, enjoined the remaining nominees to get to the venue of the screening as early as 10 a.m. on Thursday to enable the committee round off the screening.

She appreciated the Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Sen. Ita Enang, for presenting each of the nominees for screening.

Enang, commended the committee for taking out time despite the recess to ensure that the nominees were screened.

He commended them for spending over seven hours each of the days to ensure the success of the exercise.

Buhari on Thursday, June 9, sent a list of 47 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for its consideration and confirmation.

The nomination was, however, trailed with controversies, as some people alleged that it was lopsided, as Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Plateau and Ondo senators kicked against the list.
