Buhari rejects bill establishing youth organization

President Buhari has rejected the Peace Corps bill.

President Buhari’s rejection of the Peace Corps bill was conveyed in a letter to Speaker Yakubu Dogara on Tuesday, February 27, 2018.

The President cited security concerns and financial burden of funding the organisation by the government as his reasons for rejecting the bill.

“Given scarce government resources, funding the organisation will be a financial burden on the federal government,” Buhari said.

Senate pass Peace Corps bill

The Senate had passed the Peace Corps billon Tuesday, July 25, 2017.

The decision of the Senate was sequel to the advice by its committee on judiciary, human rights and legal matters for the adoption of the Conference Committee Report.

The report was presented at plenary by Senator Bayero Nafada.

Police/Peace Corps battle

The Nigeria Police has been in a long battle with the Peace Corps of Nigeria.

The Peace Corps national commandant, Dickson Akoh and members of the youth organization have been arrested by officers of the Polce.

The Police has also refused to unseal the Peace Corps national headquarters in Jabi, Abuja despite several court orders asking the Force to vacate the premises.
