President has nothing to do with ISIS chief’s visa - Presidency

The terrorist boss, Ahmed Al-Assir, was arrested on August 15, 2015, in Lebanon and was en route Nigeria through Egypt.

President Muhammadu Buhari

The Presidency has said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s name should be left out of the controversy on the issuing of a Nigerian visa to a leader of the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist group.

The terrorist boss, Ahmed Al-Assir, was arrested on August 15, 2015, in Lebanon and was en route Nigeria through Egypt.

Presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, said further that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is investigating the issue.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called for a full report on the case and it is investigating it. But it is mischievous for anyone to attempt to drag the person of President Muhammadu Buhari into the incident. The Buhari administration had nothing to do with the suspect or the supposed visit of the ISIS chief.”

“Without prejudice to the ongoing investigation, it should be noted that Nigerian missions are to serve, they can adjudge an applicant for visa on the basis of documents presented to the Embassy. What is hidden in their heart, you will not know.”

“And for this applicant, we have read report of how he concealed his identity and wore a new look to get the visa. Since the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is looking into the matter, let us await the outcome of the investigation.”

Nigerian terrorist group, Boko Haram pledged allegiance to ISIS in March 2015.
