President felicitate with ex-Senator, Pa Fasanmi at 90

According to the statement, President Buhari joins Pa Fasanmi's family, friends and kinsmen in celebrating the elder statesman's longevity in the service of his community, region and country.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday felicitated with a senator in the second republic and elder statesman, Chief Ayo Fasanmi, as he turned 90 years on Sunday.

This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja by the president’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina.

"On the joyous occasion of Pa Fasanmi's 90th birthday, Buhari applauds his uncommon and exemplary life of steadfast commitment to progressive ideals,’’ it stated.

The president commended the nonagenarian’s ‘’most admirable fidelity to the noble ideals of justice, equity, honesty, patriotism and selflessness as worthy of emulation by younger Nigerians’’.

He prayed that God would grant him many more years of good health and happiness.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Fasanmi was a member of the House of Representatives between 1964 and 1966 and was a two-term senator, from 1979 and 1983.
