President continues travels, heads to South Africa tomorrow

President Muhammadu Buhari will travel to South Africa tomorrow, December 3, 2015, to attend the forum on China-Africa Co-operation which will hold from December 4 to 5.

This was disclosed by Buhari’s media aide, Garba Shehu via a statement released today, December 2.

The president will expectedly discuss the $5.2billion fine on telecommunications company, MTN with his South African counterpart, Jacob Zuma on the side-lines of the forum.

The statement reads in part:

“President Buhari is also expected to discuss ways of removing all obstacles in the way of the 3,050 MW Mambila Power Station, considered a strategic project which was conceived in 1982 but has not taken off.”

“The Chinese president had informed President Buhari of the willingness of his country to finance the whole project through a special loan agreement," the statement said.”

Buhari will be accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi and the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah among others.

Meanwhile, some Nigerians, including Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, have criticized the president over his frequent travels.

Buhari’s aide, Garba Shehu, however rose to his boss’ defence saying that the president's foreign trips are for the country’s good and not for his personal enjoyment
