UN says it donated $58m for upkeep of IDPs

Punch reports that the document was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) by the Head of Public Information in the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Kate Pond.
An excerpt of the document reads “Since 2015, the Emergency Relief Coordinator has released more than $58 million from CERF for life-saving assistance in response to Boko Haram-related violence.
“The sum of $27.2 million was allocated in March 2015 to assist more than 1.6 million internally displaced persons, refugees, returnees and host communities from Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Nigeria.

“An additional $31 million was provided in late 2015 and early 2016 for live-saving humanitarian response for more than 700,000 affected people in the Lake Chad Basin region.”
Senate President, Bukola Saraki has also ordered the military to beef up security in IDP camps, following a suicide bomb attack in one of the Borno camps, that left over 40 people dead.
A young girl who was sent along with two others to detonate bombs, refused to carry out her mission because her father was one of the refugees in the camp.
