According to reports, Boko Haram insurgents have taken control of a military base in Baga, Borno State.

The terrorists reportedly attacked the base, which is located near Lake Chad, on Saturday, January 4, catching soldiers in the facility unawares.

The insurgents are said to have engaged in a gun battle with troops after which they took over the facility.

A military source reportedly told Punch:

“It was an ugly development in Baga on Saturday morning, when the Boko Haram insurgents attacked the   base   there and practically dislodged the soldiers. I can tell you that it was really bad.”

Another resident, Yunus Ali confirmed the attack saying that the militants had mounted their flag at the base.

“It was around 5am yesterday (Saturday) when we started hearing gunshots and they entered the   MNJTF base where they killed many civilians living in the barracks,” Ali said.

Reports of the attack have however not been confirmed by the military authorities.
