Terrorists abduct 185, kill 32 near Chibok

Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly abducted at least 185 women from a village near Chibok in Borno State.

The insurgents invaded the town of Gumsuri on Sunday, December 14, and carted away women and children after shooting down the men in sight, CNN reports.

A local government official (who chose to remain anonymous) confirmed the attack saying:

“They gathered the women and children and took them away in trucks after burning most of the village with petrol bombs.”

The terrorists were said to have arrived in the town in trucks overwhelming local vigilantes who had earlier been successful in repelling the sect’s attacks.

‎”They destroyed almost half the village and took away 185 women, girls and boys,” a fleeing resident Umar Ari also said.

Reports of the attack were not received on time due to the lack of communication in the affected area.  Officials were only informed of the attack after escaping residents arrived in the state capital, Maiduguri.

Chibok is the town from which over 200 schoolgirls were kidnapped by Boko Haram in April. Most of the girls are still in captivity.
