Nigeria accuses Chad of lying about fight against terrorists

The military has said that many of the communities which Chad claims to have recaptured are still under the control of the Boko Haram sect.

The Nigerian military has accused Chad of lying about its supposed conquests against the Boko Haram sect.

Chad had earlier accused Nigerian soldiers of being too afraid to take over the retaken towns desperate several assurances that the terrorists had been chased out.

However Nigerian military sources have said that the reports are false.

"What do they mean by clearing a place when they are not holding ground? So on what ground are they telling the international community they are holding? They are doing entirely a different thing and have been lying all along. They have not been telling the truth, just that our military wants to be diplomatic in dealing with this issue,” a source told ThisDay.

“Even all those areas they claimed they were holding, is all hoax, they only came to loot and disappear back to their boundary, while claiming they are holding grounds but when our troops come, they meet strong resistance from Boko Haram,” the source added.

“It is not true that our soldiers are not willing to take over such communities. There is no town that our soldiers have liberated that is not being well secured and well patrolled at the moment,” Director of Defence Information, Chris Olukolade said.

“We have always warned against irresponsible comments in this collaboration and we are not ready to join issues with anybody. We will do everything to sustain this collaboration,” he added.

Chad has deployed 2,500 to Nigeria as part of a multinational force constituted to fight Boko Haram.
