‘It’s no longer easy to differentiate sect from ISIS,’ French President says

French President, Francois Hollande, on Monday, September 14, 2015, said that it had become difficult to differentiate Nigerian terrorist sect, Boko Haram from its Middle-Eastern counterpart, the Islamic State (ISIS).

Hollande made the comments while receiving Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari at the Elysee Palace in Paris.

“The fight against Boko Haram is the fight against Daesh,” he said, referring to the Arabic acronym for ISIS.

“It is no longer possible to distinguish terrorism from regions. It’s the same terrorism inspired by the same death ideology. To fight Boko Haram is to fight Daesh, and we can no longer single out terrorism according to regions. It is the same terrorism, inspired by the same ideology of death,” he added.

Boko Haram had earlier announced an alliance with ISIS in March 2015 and rechristened itself the Islamic State in West Africa.
