Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima has announced that the state is now free of terror.

Shettima made the announcement on Monday, April 11, 2016, while on a visit to the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Muhammad Sidi in Abuja, Vanguard reports.

“Borno is now free. 10 months ago, one could not travel for 10 kilometres without encountering terrorists,” he said.

“Yes, we still have occasional hiccups, but Boko Haram has been so decimated that they can no longer threaten the corporate existence of Nigeria,” he added.

Shettima had earlier denied reports that Boko Haram was still in control of some local governments in the state.
