The Nigerian Army has recaptured 5 towns in Borno State from Boko Haram, authorities say.

Mafa, Malumfatori, Abadam, Marte and Gamboru have been listed as the towns retaken from the terrorists.

“Our troops are in control after operations which had the active support of volunteers (vigilantes) and our friendly neighbours,” Mike Omeri, the Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) told AFP.

Chad’s military had conducted airstrikes against Boko Haram in Gamboru and had also earlier recovered Malumfatori from the sect.

The state governor, Kashim Shettima had said on Tuesday, November 4, 2014, that Boko Haram was in control of eight out of the 27 Local Government Areas in the state.
