According to reports, seven suspected members of Boko Haram have died in a failed bombing attempt in the Biu area of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The terrorists were said to have been heading to the Biu Market for an attack on Monday, December 29, when the explosives they were carrying in the vehicle detonated prematurely.

A security source told Punch on Tuesday:

“A Toyota pick-up van, loaded with maize and beans with IED hidden under them, belonging to Boko Haram insurgents, exploded near Chikwarkir village of Biu, killing all the occupants of the van.”

“As you know, it is harvest time and people are taking their farm produce to the market; but thank God, the bomb exploded before they could get to the market,” the source added.

The source also reportedly said that the insurgents chose Monday for the attack because it was one of the busiest days in the market.
