Troops in Niger have killed 109 members of Boko Haram, the country’s Defence Minister has said.

The terrorists were killed on Friday, February, 6, after unsuccessful attacks in the Nigerien towns of Bosso and Diffa.

The minister, Mahamadou Karijo said in a statement read out on State television that one civilian and four soldiers were killed in the battle while 17 others were injured.
“At around 9 a.m. elements of the Boko Haram terrorist group launched two simultaneous attacks at Bosso and Diffa. At Bosso, Niger's defence forces helped by Chadian troops neutralised the assailants,” Karijo said.
"Calm has returned to the two localities and the situation is under control," he added.
Friday’s attack was Boko Haram’s first in Niger and was repelled by the country’s troops after a one-hour battle.
