The Jigawa Government said it would complete the two abandoned Township Stadium projects in the state.

The Commissioner for Information, Youths, Sports and Culture, Alhaji Bala Ibrahim, said this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse.

"This government is willing to support youths, especially in sporting activities, but that will not be possible without stadia and other sports facilities.

"When this administration came on board, it met two uncompleted township stadia in Dutse and Kazaure. We have decided to complete those projects," he said.

Ibrahim said that the government would do everything possible to engage youths in sports to discourage them from drug abuse and other vices.

He noted that organizing football tournaments would also take many of the youths off the streets and engage them productively.

The commissioner added that such tournaments would help raise a pool of responsible young athletes.

"Such tournaments will help raise a pool of responsive and responsible young athletes, who will use football as a springboard to having a healthy, purposeful and patriotic life into adulthood,’’ the commissioner added.

NAN recalls that contract for the construction of the two township stadia in Dutse and Kazaure, was awarded by the immediate past administration at the cost of N500 million.
