Arms Deal Court releases Haliru Bello's passport for medical trip

Justice Mohammed however directed that the document be returned to the court registrar as soon as Bello returns to the country in May.

The embattled former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Haliru Bello, has been given permission to travel abroad on health grounds.

Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday, April 7, released Bello's international passport to enable him go for medical check-up.

Counsel to the PDP Chieftain, Kanu Agabi (SAN), had filed an application seeking the release of his client's travel document to enable him travel for treatment.

Justice Mohammed however directed that the document be returned to the court registrar as soon as Bello returns to the country in May.

Bello, his son, Abba and his company, Bam Projects and Property Ltd were arraigned in January by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly receiving the sum of N300 million from the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.

Hearing of the case was adjourned to May 18 - the date was determined by the expected duration of his planned trip.
