The Bayelsa State Government has declared a seven-day mourning period for former Governor, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.

Alamieyeseigha died on Saturday, October 10, 2015, at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.

The mourning period was announced via a statement on Monday, October 12, by Daniel Iworiso-Markson, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Seriake Dickson.
According to the statement, all flags in all public buildings and premises across the state will be flown at half-mast during the period.
Condolence registers have also been opened in the Government House and the state Secretariat.
The former governor's demise is said to have been caused by a cardiac arrest which pushed him into a coma from which he never awoke.
Alamieyeseigha had reportedly been facing a renewal of money laundering charges against him by the United Kingdom before his death.
