'You must apologise to President's wife,' Group tells Fayose

Speaking to newsmen in Abuja on Friday, the AYIF President, Comrade Abubakar Ibrahim, said Fayose was playing indecent politics.

Ekiti state Governor, Ayodele Fayose.

Fayose had alleged multiple times that Mrs Buhari is wanted in the US due to her involvement in the infamous Halliburton fraud case, a bribery scandal that ended the political career of former Congressman William Jefferson, who is currently serving a 13-year sentence after he was convicted in US court for charges that included accepting bribes from Nigerian officials.

Mrs. Buhari has since denied the allegation and threatened legal action against Fayose.

However, the President's wife is currently in the US to participate in a series of meetings in Washington DC, including a function at the United States Institute of Peace.

Speaking to newsmen in Abuja on Friday, August 5, the AYIF President, Comrade Abubakar Ibrahim, said Fayose was playing indecent politics.

He said: “We are pointing this significance because of what Nigerians were made to believe in the past by Ekiti State governor, with claims that Mrs Buhari was a fugitive from justice in the US over the Halliburton scandal.

“We caution politicians to play politics in a decent and transparent manner irrespective of political differences and each time they have issues to score, they should not be diversionary.

“Our expectations are that beginning with Ekiti state, at the end of Fayose’s tenure, the electorates would insist that psychiatric evaluation and a consequent certificate of mental competence would be requisite for all the candidates seeking elections."

The group added that Fayose and other governors should focus on finding a solution to the welfare of workers rather than pursuing political interest.
