Oyo Governor's wife to collaborate with Malaria action plan team

Ajimobi said that she had distributed a lot of  insecticide treated nets in all the nooks and crannies of Ibadan, where each family had at least two treated mosquito nets in 2013.

Mrs Florence Ajimobi - The wife of the Oyo state Governor.

Ajimobi stated this in a statement signed by her Special Assistant on Media, Mrs Yemisi Owonikoko,  and made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Wednesday.

The statement said that Mrs Ajimobi gave the assurance in Ibadan, on Wednesday when the Action Plan Team paid her a visit at her residence.

She said that all hands must be on deck in fighting the scourge, stressing that the higher the malaria prevalence, the lower the productivity of an individual.

“Malaria does not only kill pregnant women, nursing mothers, infants and children but could also transform into other forms of ill-health such as blindness, paralysis and convulsion to mention but a few.”

She assured the team of her maximum support and willingness for collaboration in the distribution of the mosquito treated nets to the people.

The governor’s wife also promised that wives of the Local Government Caretaker Chairmen would be co-opted to join the team and be `Net Ambassadors’ in their various jurisdiction.

The leader of the team, Mr Godwin Aidenagbon, said in the statement that the team was poised to replace all the nets that were previously distributed in 2013 as they would no longer be effective in keeping mosquitoes away.

He said that the Federal Government was ready to reduce malaria occurrence in Nigeria as indicated by the partnership with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), to replace nets to the vulnerable across the country.

The team leader said that about 4.3 million mosquito nets would soon be distributed  in Oyo State.

Aidenagbon, therefore, appealed to the governor’s wife to help with the campaign awareness programme as well as the mobilisation of people to come out and collect the treated Nets.
