Residents want more public toilets on Lagos highways

They said it will help curb the break-out of diseases. Citing that most people who are pressed when on the road, use the road side.

Public Toilet

On Friday, some Lagos residents made a passionate plea to the State Government to construct public toilets on major highways across the state.

They said it will help curb the break-out of diseases. Citing that most people who are pressed when on the road, use gutters or the road-side as rest-rooms to answer the call of nature.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) some respondents suggested that the public toilets should be constructed along strategic highway like the Lekki/Epe expressway, Apapa/Oshodi/Oworonshoki expressway, the Lagos/Ibadan expressway, among many others.

Mrs. Ngozi Eberesim, a woman who was pressed on her way back from the Hospital said “Let the government build toilets at strategic points, especially for people like me, who may be experiencing a similar problem.”

You will recall that the Lagos State Government setup a team- the Kick Against Indiscipline brigade(KAI), whose duty, among many others is to discourage people from defecating and urinating in the public.

Mrs. Abimbola Fashola, the wife of the Lagos State Governor, has also openly condemned the act, describing it as a habit that should be tackled frontally.

In her own words 'Besides looking unhealthy and foul-smelling, both actions are harmful to the health of residents as experts say they support the spread of diseases such as typhoid and cholera.'
