In this year’s list of top automakers, there have not been any major surprises.
Top 10 largest car makers in the world
Toyota still remains the world’s biggest automaker both on this list as well as by number of cars sold.
There has been some light shuffling of positions however, with the most obvious being Ford who have moved from fourth down to seventh position, ranking 69th overall, again down from the 47th position it held last year.
Toyota still remains the world’s biggest automaker both on this list as well as by number of cars sold. The Japanese giant sold over 10.23 million vehicles last year beating contenders, Volkswagen and General Motors, by no small margin.
Volkswagen comes in second, with Mercedes owner Daimler taking third position on Forbes respected list.
German giant BMW comes in fourth, Japan’s Honda takes fifth and the US’s General Motors surprisingly only managed sixth position.
As mentioned earlier, Ford takes seventh, with yet another Japanese company –Nissan, taking eight leaving Hyundai (South Korea) and SAIC motors (latest owners of the MG brand and the only Chinese company that makes the list) to be content with ninth and tenth places respectively.
