“We call on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the housing sector”
The Estate, Rent and Commission Agents Association(ERCAAN) is demanding for a state of emergency in Nigeria's housing sector.
Also, a lot of real estate experts think the housing industry has been overrun by expatriates and foreign building materials.
Based on all of the above, the Estate, Rent and Commission Agents Association(ERCAAN) is demanding for a state of emergency in Nigeria's housing sector.
ERCAAN president, Mr. Emmanuel Dare, announced this during its Annual General Meeting of the Lagos chapter.
“Every government in the world takes housing seriously. In our country, the state of infrastructure is degrading and the crisis in the North-East, among others, has placed pressure on housing needs.
“We call on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the housing sector, especially in the North-East, and set up housing initiatives in all states of the federation.”
This comes after the association spoke out on the deplorable state of real estate agents in Lagos state.
“As I speak to you, the licensed estate agents in Lagos State are not up to 500. The number of illegal ones surpasses that of licensed ones by far; most of them don’t even have offices. We have licensed estate agents in Lagos and it is not easy to get a licence. None of our members is involved in most of the fraudulent activities that you see happening in the sector. We have disciplinary measures in place.”
