10 users of the electronics payment option under the Electronic Payments Incentive Scheme (EPIS) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) have been rewarded.

The winners, who emerged from the 3 and 4 draws for September and October respectively, received a total of N1.4 million in rewards.

According to Nigeria CommunicationsWeek report, the first winners received N250,000 each, while the second, fourth and fifth winners received N200,000, N150,000, N100,000 and N50,000 respectively.

At the presentation of the cheques to the winners, Alhaji Suleiman Barau, CBN deputy governor who also doubles as chairman of the Nigerian Inter Bank Settlement Scheme (NIBSS), said EPIS was founded to reward users of the electronic payments options as part of efforts to strengthen the adoption of electronic payments services in Nigeria.

“The CBN is particularly poised to collaborate with stakeholders to incentive the culture of electronic payments within Nigeria. EPIS was therefore designed to recognise and reward various categories of users of electronic payments including cardholders, merchants, sale persons and service providers. The raffle draw which is targeted at the cardholders commenced earnestly with draws drawn and winners rewarded in both Lagos and Abuja,” Barau added.

The CBN deputy governor also noted that benefits of using the electronic payment options go beyond the prize money in the EPIS platform and transcends into better safety and convenience of the consumer.
