FRSC arrests 7,584 offenders from January to May, 2016, in Sokoto

7,584 traffic offenders have been arrested in five months.

According to Mr Olumide Olagunju, the Assistant Corps Marshal, and the Zonal Commanding officer of RS10 Sokoto state, these arrests were made from January to May, 2016.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Olagunju said 149 of these offenders were prosecuted, 131 were successfully convicted, while eight of them were discharged.

The Marshal stated seat-belt violation as the major offence recorded, adding that 132 road traffic crashes was also recorded within this period.

"Sixty-nine persons were killed while 419 persons sustained various degrees of injury in road accidents that occurred from January to date.

We will continue to educate road users on the need to adhere to traffic rules and regulations to prevent road accidents,’’ he said.
