The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has revealed the group of people affected the most in road traffic crashes, Pmnewsnigeria reports.
'7 in all 10 victims of accidents are youths', FRSC reveals
Youths, between the prime ages of 15 and 29, are affected the most, in road traffic crashes.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr Oludare Fadogba, the Commanding Officer in charge of Jos Zone, said youths suffer the most, in accidents.
He said youths, between the 15 and 29, are often killed in their prime, adding that seven in every 10 victims of road crashes are youths.
Fadogba said these statistics show the effect of accidents on the nation's economy and growth.
"This then means that the prospect of this nation attaining its economic and political potentials is being hampered by a situation where a good number of its productive youths get killed on the roads,” he said.
The Jos commanding officer advised young people to obey all traffic rules, avoid under-aged driving, and drunk driving.
He also advised the government, as well as stakeholders, address the the high rate of accident-related deaths.
“Road traffic crashes remain a global phenomenon, but they have more devastating effects in the developing countries like ours.
The lack of infrastructural platforms, legal framework and definite goals needed to address this menace have contributed into worsening the situation on daily basis", he stated.
