NUPENG to train 2,800 drivers nationwide
The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) is training 2,800 drivers on road safety.
According to Alhaji Tokunbo Korodo, the South West Chairman of NUPENG, the training will reduce accidents and save lives on highways.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), he said the four-week programme would be done with Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) Ogun State Traffic Compliance, Enforcement Corps (TRACE),Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA), more.
"We are aware that accident that involves loaded tanker used to have a devastating effect on lives, on the economy and infrastructure.
Consequently, the national leadership of PTD, under the leadership of Alhaji resolved that there is urgent need to train all tanker drivers on wheels nationwide.
Although, we have been training our tanker drivers before engaging them on the road, we believe that constant training would reduce accidents on our roads.
We resolved that we need to engage these agencies to come and engage our drivers on how to drive safely on highway.
We also want them to give our tanker drivers their rules and regulations so that they will abide by them," he said.
This training will be done in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Kaduna and Warri, within the next two months.
