Auto maker set to sell 360 cars to House of Representatives

Members of the House of Representatives are patronising local auto manufacturer, Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited.

According to Naija247News, each car will cost N10m, leaving the total cost for the 360 units at N3.6 billion.

The Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Abdulrazak Namdas, has confirmed this.

“Peugeot is a local vehicle assembly plant. By patronising them, it is the decision of the House that we will be generating employment and promoting made in Nigeria products. That is the difference.

Each unit is N10m, which is, again, far cheaper compared to when we have to import the cars. We have resolved to buy the cars and in weeks from today, they will begin to arrive,” he said.

The Senate Committee is currently in the process of passing a bill that encourages the patronage of Made-in-Nigeria cars.

Once this bill is passed, ALL government officials will be forced to buy Made-in-Nigeria cars, thus, increasing patronage and improving the nation's economy.

In other PAN news, a lot of people are bidding for majority shares of the plant in Kaduna.

These interested parties include the governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai,Aliko Dangote, Kebbi state, and development lender, Bank of Industry (BoI).

Once this is done, the Kaduna plant will be expected to produce 90,000 and 100,000 Peugeot cars, yearly.

"Our hope is that when we acquire the majority share of the company, we will restructure it to operate to full capacity of assembling between 90,000 and 100,000 cars yearly.

We have the support of PAN as well as the government of France in this drive.

We are determined to bring back all industries related to Peugeot established in Kaduna as part of plans to ensure that every youth in Kaduna State has something doing,” Governor El-Rufai said.
