Lagos state government commences stability test

The Lagos state government has initiated a stability test on the affected building, and all building that belong to Lekki Gardens Estate.

According to the governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, this test will be carried out on the recently collapsed five-storey building, along with all buildings that belong to Lekki Gardens Estate.

“The State Government will undertake a stability test on all other buildings constructed by the Developer in the State, whether occupied or not, to ascertain their structural stability. The Developer will pay the cost of the tests.  Any building found to be defective would be demolished. For those that pass the integrity test the developer will pay a penalty for any overdevelopment on the site,” he said.

This test is being done by officials of the Lagos state Material Testing Laboratory, LSMTL, who were sighted conducting test on the buildings, Vanguard reports.

Mr. Rasheed Balogun, an engineer and Acting General Manager of LSMTL, said this test could prevent another building from collapsing.
